That’s My Song: My Willing Heart (James Blake)

Have you met James Blake?  Let me introduce you to him.

This man is from England, has a very unique voice, plays a good piano, and writes his heart and soul into every song.  For real – he is going through it!  His music is typically labeled as “electronic” , “soulful”, and “moody”. A great combination for me!

A few years ago, a friend introduced me to a few of his songs – a remake of Feist’s “Limit to Your Love” and then “Retrograde” (cue all of my feels). Instant fan.  Anyway, back in May I read a tweet a that a new album (The Colour in Anything) would be released at midnight. You bet you bottom dollar that I started listening! So many intricate and deep lyrics set to an array of rhythms and sounds.

As you listen, the layers keep coming.  It’s quite a departure from the other tracks on The Colour in Anything. It’s stripped down and at half-speed.  It’s perfect. Fun fact: Frank Ocean co-wrote this song.
