That’s My Song: New Person, Same Old Mistakes (Tame Impala)

For those who are familiar with Top 40/Pop music, they know that Miss Rihanna’s ANTI released.  When a friend recommended I check it out last Friday, I gave a listen to the samples on iTunes (I don’t have a TIDAL membership). The 90 second clips gave me a decent gauge of the album.

I’m a very casual fan, so buying it wasn’t a must for me. The only songs that intrigued me (aka had a chance of listening to it again) were “James Joint” (right up my alley, sound-wise) and “Same Ol’ Mistakes”. It had a retro, chill sound that I liked. Went online to see who were involved in the album, and I saw that the song was a cover by an Australian band – Tame Impala. Surprisingly, the song is not that old at all. It was released last July. So that’s cool that Rihanna’s version gives listeners the chance to get acquainted with the band.

I got on Spotify to listen and I was like, “Whoa, this is nice.” I’ve listened to it several times since last weekend. It has a nice blend of different styles that I enjoy.

Here is the original.

I’m a lyrics person too, so hearing the story unfold with music and reading its’ background drew to me as well. Check it out.

What say you? Have you listened to both? Which one do you prefer?

I’ve also been a little salty about the album. Haven’t been too excited but now that I have an idea of what you’ve been listening to, I’ma have a quick listen.

I’m glad I’m not alone. It was just “okay”. Would love to know what you think after you listen some more.

I’ll definitely update you on that. I’m a RiRi fan but she hasn’t excited me for this album much.
