Take Me Away…

Posted in Wanderlust by

The gloomy skies and rain we’ve been receiving this week has me missing the sun. It also got me to think. You know how people have that one place where they can leave it all behind, without any cares? Most would call it their sanctuary.

The beach is that place for me.

The ideal mixture of sunshine and bliss. When I tell you…I feel at peace when I’m there, it’s the truth. It’s beautiful and far enough to make me believe I’m in a different world.  No obligations. Simple and true. The feel of the sun on me, the tide rolling in. Giving myself time to breathe and appreciate.

Anytime we can get away to the beach is a great time for me.  I long for it.  My all-time favorite is Folly Beach, South Carolina. It’s about 15 minutes away from Charleston (my favorite city). I haven’t seen anything so beautiful.  The times I’ve visited, it wasn’t crowded, which is perfect.

Because of limited time, lately, we’ve gone on day trips to the beach in the general area, so our go-to’s have been Bethany Beach, DE, and Cape May, NJ. Of course, we’ll drive up Route 1 to Rehoboth Beach and take in the boardwalk.

My favorite parts about the beach? The warm sand. Being able to just chill by the water, reading a book, eating a snack. Laughing with friends and family. There is nothing better in my mind.

If I had my way, I’d live at the beach or very close by all summer long. Or even two weeks. I’d be satisfied.  I dream about sinking my toes into the warm sand and eventually the brisk ocean water. Idyllic living.  Even as I’m typing and reminiscing, I’m anticipating my next trip.

My youngest brother, who is definitely a beach baby.

As you can tell, I love finding quotes. Here’s another one that makes me smile.

“The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.” – Wyland

Once my work schedule eases up for the summer, I’ll be making some more trips! The countdown begins.

Do you like the beach? If so, do you have a favorite location? OR…where is your special place? I’d love to know where you go to recharge and relax.
