If you follow me on Twitter or Snapchat, you knew what I was up to this weekend. My friend texted me at 1am on Saturday. asking if I would be able to accompany him to his friend’s wedding. For that day. So, about 15 hours away. I thought for a minute and said yes. Of course, I didn’t want him to go alone! But my brain was swirling with thoughts. How in the world was I going to pull this off? Knowing it’d be an event to remember, but not having fancy in my closet. I was not prepared!
Y’all…
It was a whirlwind of a morning. With Jesus on my side and a large iced latte in my hand, I visited four stores to find something. I had about 3 hours. I admit – I do not enjoy the spontaneity of last minute changes. Plus when trying on clothes is involved…woof. Not always the best combo for me. I’m a planner and I like having a game plan. I tend to get stressed out when I’m frustrated.
But I knew I had I had to pull it together and find some peace! I had to keep praying and whispering to myself that I’d find a dress. I wanted a blue dress…and guess what? The one that worked out for me was blue. Whoop whoop!
Here it is. It does run a little bit big on the sides, but I’d rather that happen than the opposite. What’s cool about this dress is that I can wear at other places: Church, a nice dinner with friends, or work-related events. Also, for future wears, I can pair it with a necklace, my black wedges, and jacket for layering.
Got home in time, to shower and get makeup on. Thankfully, I didn’t have to purchase anything else. Wore my strappy heels from last year and simple jewelry.
Stuck with my neutral look, but used my lipstick from Maybelline – Stormy Sahara, topping it off with Tantalize from Bare Minerals.
The wedding and reception was amazing! The happy couple had so much love for each other; it was obvious. I nearly fainted at the awesomeness of the venue. The bride planned the whole thing. I loved that. Check out the hashtag on Instagram: sayo17. You’ll see what I mean. Everyone had a great time.
There’s Sein and I, during the reception. You know we had to take a sensible picture. He’s giving you “fierce blue steel” while I have the side eye.
Praise report – I wore my heels for 6 hours! Of course, I brought flip flops. After dinner and a few pictures, I shuffled to the car and switched shoes. Brought some K Tape, slapped that sucker on my knee, and I danced for a few hours.
We didn’t get home until 3am. But that was expected. So much fun, y’all.
Morals of the story: Always be prepared. You never know when you’ll get asked to attend a special event. Also, don’t be afraid to try something because you don’t have every duck in a row. I’m going to plug this as a win in my “challenge yourself” category.
