Happy Monday! Over the weekend, our area (and other states) received the first snow of the year. I’m not a big fan, but it does look pretty. Since I knew inclement weather was approaching, I thought about getting my nails done. While shopping late Friday night, I scrapped that idea, opted for doing it myself.
I checked out Pinterest for inspiration, and saw a few pics for black and gold nails. Decided to take that route. Check below to see what I did.
I purchased Black to Black by Sally Hansen and Essie’s Summit of Style. At first, I was only going to use the gold on my ring finger, but I felt “adventurous”, and decided to put the sparkle on everything.
Here was my process:
– Base coat (primer). I use the Sally Hansen brand “Double Duty“.
– Two coats of black, waited about 10 minutes, to make sure everything was dry.
– Then, I added a few strokes of the gold flecks; I was very impressed by how well it stayed on. In the past, I’ve used other brands of glitter polish and it’s been hit or mess. Check out Essie’s line of “multi-dimensional topcoats”.
– After another 10 minutes, I sealed it with a regular top coat, to create a shiny layer. That’s it!
No, they’re not perfect, but I’m happy with the results.
Thanks to points I had from Ulta (faithful shopper there), I was able to purchase the gold polish for $6. (Originally $9). The Insta-Dri brand is less than $5. An easy manicure for under $15. Oh, yeah…
Nothing like a pop of color and glitter for the new year!
In the wintertime, do you get fancy with your manicures? With special designs, bold colors, or funky combos? Let me know. π
